Every April members of The Leacock Foundation and guests enjoy an evening of wit and humour in support of the Foundation’s signature academic and leadership programs for underserved youth in Toronto.

For many years the Leacock Debate has relied on the talent of the legal community for its debaters.  A number of prominent lawyers have volunteered their time to serve as debaters which have been the key to the event’s success.

This year’s debate will be moderated by the Honourable Beverley McLachlin and the topic is:

Be it Resolved it’s Time for Men to Return to their Rightful Place

Debaters include:

  • Jennifer Keesmaat
  • Alex Johnston
  • Cathal Kelly, and
  • Eric Peterson

The Leacock Foundation was founded in 1992, by Peter Oliver, of Oliver and Bonacini Restaurants, a native South African living in Toronto.

Working both locally, in Toronto, and globally in South Africa, the Leacock Foundation provides needs-based, educational programming enhanced by technology, to high-needs communities in Toronto and in South Africa.  Through a unique partnership model called the “Triangle of Hope“, the Foundation works with and connects these communities to provide enriched opportunities for young people, so that they can unlock their potential and create a more positive future.

The debate will be held April 30th at the Carlu.  For more information about the Debate or to purchase tickets, please visit their web site or contact debate@leacockfoundation.org or 416-489-9309.
